Federal radioactive waste management activities in Nevada may
result in changes to fiscal conditions within Lincoln County
and the City of Caliente. Population out-migration
could reduce available tax revenues from which community
services and infrastructure are funded. Alternatively,
project related employment may stimulate local population
growth and related increased spending. New residents will
require community services and would contribute to increased
revenue collections. To facilitate assessment of changes
in local fiscal characteristics which might attend the federal
waste management program, the County and City have undertaken
a variety of studies focusing upon costs and efficiency of
local government.
